Willfull Blindness

I heard this expression this morning and had no idea what they were walking about, so I stopped and listened (it was a commercial, I wasn't eavesdropping!)

Basically it's similar to burying your head in the sand.

Hey it's actually a legal term!  I had no idea!

is a term used in law to when an individual seeks to avoid civil or criminal liability for a wrongful act by intentionally putting himself in a position where he will be unaware of facts which would render him liable.

I had no idea!

The commercial this morning was talking about it in reference to not opening your credit card bill! (been there, done that)

I was thinking of it in another way.

Summer starts in just about 8 weeks.
54 days from today

Are you ready?

Even though I have been actively trying to lose weight, I've only lost 11lbs since the beginning of the year.  I've lost 61 over all, but it has slowed down BIG TIME since I'm getting closer to a healthy weight.

I'm still overweight though.  According to the BMI calculators, I need to lose 10 more pounds to be considered a healthy weight for my height and age (I'm 41).

At this rate, I don't think I'm going to make that goal in 8 weeks.

So do I just turn my attention somewhere else and pretend there is nothing I can do?  (willfull blindness)
Or do I change what I'm doing?

I change. I started working out. I will do some sort of exercise every day.

Yesterday I walked the beach for a little bit waiting for the fog to burn off so I could do some beach writings

Today I did Level 1 of Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred. I'm sure I'm going to be sore tomorrow, I haven't been working out lately.

But summer is just 8 weeks away.  There isn't any time to bury my head in the sand!!!

  1. You can work toward your goal and then just see where you end up during the 8th week. Try not to let self-doubt of your ability to meet your goals deter you from trying....you may surprise yourself :)

Even if you are not able to meet your goal 100% by 8 weeks, you'll at least be closer to it than you are today and the results will likely be favorable because you will have at least made a good amount of progress.

I'm not ready for summer, but that's nothing new because I a rarely am each year. Summer is among my least favorite seasons and so I dread the time it comes around every year. I guess that should be my motivation to try and take vacations during the summer to places that are not going through their summer season when my area of the country is going through it's summer season, lol.

  2. Kudos to you for the loss of the 61lbs! That's great. I wish you well with your goal too! As for the "willful blindness", I like to refer to it as "Dummying up" I'm good at that!
