Sea Glass from the Jersey Shore

I haven't been looking for sea glass lately because it's summer and everyone is looking for it.  I look but I don't look specifically for it unless it's really low tide.

But that doesn't mean I still don't make necklaces and such from the pieces I do have.

I have more, just check out MY SHOP

All this Sea Glass!

All work & no beach makes this week DRAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGG...

Not that I don't love my day job, my day job rocks.  And I'm not just saying that because I think my boss & some co workers possibly read my blog. LOL

Since between driving the older child to school because he's still on crutches (MRI is today) and the younger one starting almost an hour after the older one, I had some time to kill today.  So I dug into my sea glass stash looking for piece to make into a barrette.

And since I had it all spread out, I figured I'd share.

I think I might find a cool frame for those two flowers on the right.  There are a few pieces in there that could be made into more crabs.  Ever since I sold crabby I've gotten people asking about making ones for them.

The other night I made a toe ring.  Don't mind my ugly feet.  I found out I can write off a pedicure on my taxes if I use my own feet to sell my stuff so when I get 30 minutes free I'm going to get one! LOL The green polish and the green piece of glass are pure coincidence, I painted my nails days ago.

I was worried the metal was too soft for a toe ring & that it would fall off, but I wore it all day yesterday and it was still there when I went to bed. I did take it off before I went to sleep so it wouldn't get lost in the sheets.

I'm going to make some more of these & list them over the next few days.  I'll use the silver colored wire too.

(side note, if you've ever wondered if I photoshopped my beach writing pictures, your answer is in the above picture.  If I was really good at photoshop, my feet would look a LOT nicer!)

Today is going to be a crazy day.  Between work, older son's MRI and then his 8th grade graduation ceremony & family coming down for cake... It's a good thing it's cloudy out, I really don't have time to go to the beach this morning.  OH and here is your opportunity to laugh at me.

I invited just the grandparents & aunts & uncles (and cousins) for cake because even though both kids are graduating this year, it's only 8th & 5th grade.  We're going to have a BBQ in July where I'll invite the rest of the family.  But I realized after I invited everyone that my oven is dead & I can't make a cake!  LOL

I like to make cakes.  I only do it for family but you can see some pictures here

So I had to decide between getting a too big cake at Costco or getting a normal sized ice cream cake from our favorite ice cream place

Kids picked ice cream so that's what I'm doing!

Update on me

I know I've been whining a lot lately when it comes to talking about myself, and I apologize for that.  But I was in a lot of pain.  And the pain was hard to deal with because it was every day.  And I was gaining weight like a pregnant woman (no I'm not pregnant).

I've gained back 20 pounds of the 66 I lost.  First 10 or so when I quit smoking & was taking steroids for what docs thought was a chest muscle injury.  Then another 10 of holiday & feeding the pain pounds.

What is "feeding the pain?"  Very basically, it's being too miserable to care about what you're eating.  I spent a lot of time eating comfort foods.  Only they didn't comfort me and now I'm uncomfortable in my skin.

But I have a turned a corner!
I'm not in so much pain anymore!
I see the light!
My jeans don't look good anymore!
I have summer clothes I bought last summer that aren't going to fit if I don't get moving!

Time to stop feeding the pain!

I've been doing Low Carb, but I'm burnt out on it.  Low Carb is a GREAT way to lose weight.  But I just need to do something different to shake things up.  I'm not really active again yet, I'm slowly getting back to exercising, so I really need to shake up my way of eating.

I honestly considered HCG, but the thought of 500 calories EVERY DAY and ingesting a hormone...  well it just doesn't sit well with me.  And I know it works.  I have a friend who had been struggling with losing weight for YEARS and was able to take it all off in just a few months doing HCG.  Also, you have to remember I have 2 kids, so I want to be a good role model for them where it comes to eating healthy.

In my latest research of looking for something different to do, I discovered JUDDD.  Yes it's supposed to have 3 D's.

JUDDD stands for Johnson's Up Day Down Day.  It's also known as an Alternate Day diet.

In a nutshell, you do one day of 500 calories and the next day your normal amount of calories.  If you do a search on JUDDD you can find a calculator to figure out your calories.  My UD is around 2000.

I wandered into a forum and asked "is it really that simple?  One day up & one day down?  And I got a RESOUNDING YES!

So I'm giving it a try.

I started with an UD on Wednesday and Thursday was my first 500 calorie DD.  I won't say it was easy, but it wasn't OMG hard.  I bought some 100 calorie protein shakes & bars.  I have these Coco cakes (aka Cannon cakes) that are 16 calories each.  They're not great alone, but they did the trick yesterday.

I'm not good about measuring food so I'm not 100% sure I stuck to 500 calories but I'm within 20ish.  I'm good with that.

One of the things I am doing for exercise is walking the beach. I'm down there at least 3 times a week doing my Beach Writings and looking for Beach Glass. So I've been walking while I'm there. It's a good cardio & strength without the impact I have to be careful of.

So that's the latest on me.  Oh wait I forgot something..

I was interviewed this week by a writer from the Asbury Park Press for a Sunday piece on my business.  :D  Not exactly sure when it's going to run, but once it does - well I can't imagine what life will be like then!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Bad Ass Beach Glass

Bad Ass Beach Glass Charm

What is Bad Ass Glass? It's beach glass found on the Jersey Shore. Jersey Shore beach glass is so bad ass it needs to be caged & put on a leash!

I captured this bad ass beach glass when I was on the beach doing my custom beach writings.

Some days I find a gang of glass, some days it finds a better hiding spot.
January 31, 2012 was a good day.

I've taken the bad ass glass and some wire and made cages to keep them from harming others. You can use it as a key chain,  a phone charm, or even a USB charm.  If you're crafty yourself, you can take the charm off the chain & attach it to a necklace! Just make sure you keep it leashed as it is bad ass beach sea glass!
