Varicose Veins
&
Other reasons not to wear shorts.
Thankfully I do not have have Varicose veins. But recently I was reading a post on a message board about wearing shorts or no sleeve shirts. Varicose veins was pretty much the #1 reason most women gave for not wearing shorts.
#2 was being over weight. "No one wants to see my fat arms"
It made me feel bad for those people who felt they can't be comfortable in hot weather because of their preconceived notion of what other people think.
Honestly, unless you're wearing something 10 sizes too small, no one really notices what you are wearing, much less any imperfections.
Everyone else is as self conscious of themselves as you are of yourself.
Trust me on this one, we all have imperfections.
Even when I get to my goal weight, I will never be able to wear anything that exposes my stomach because of scars on my skin from my HS. But that is not going to stop me from wearing a bathing suit, or go swimming! And even though I have a big scar on my thigh, I'm not going to suffer in the heat by wearing pants when it's over 75 degrees!
And neither should you.
Be yourself, don't suffer from the heat, WEAR SHORTS!
Summers coming!
I'm not sure why it is, but I've never been one to wear shorts even when I was a kid. I don't know if it was my mother's preferred way to dress me, a cultural thing about the era when I grew up, or what. I have never felt comfortable wearing shorts out in public. In recent years I have started wearing them around the house but still don't wear them away from home. Likewise, other than at the beach or in a park, I think it looks weird for men to wear shorts in public places. I'm especially appalled at some of the guys who wear shorts to church. Sure, I'm in California, but still.

Tossing It Out
I agree. We are all just too self-conscious about our bodies. Great post!
ReplyDeleteLIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE!!! I agree. The one esteem issue I have is sharing my fat...ugh.
ReplyDeleteCheers to you, I found your blog by way of Lee's Tossing It Out!
I watched a news story about Varicose Veins a few years ago and thought "thanks...that's all I need is another problem to worry about with regard to my physical appearance"! lol.
ReplyDeleteI've worn shorts here and there but have experienced some problems throughout my life that have prevented me from being comfortable wearing shorts, so I've usually worn jeans all year round...even when it is over 75 degrees.
I also didn't wear a lot of skirts or dresses either and in the last few years or so, I've been trying to add more of these items to my wardrobe, but I added more skirts and dresses than shorts. I am VERY uncomfortable wearing shorts and I weigh less than 120 pounds, so I feel like, it's always something that people have to deal with when it comes to wearing shorts, especially women....it's either weight or varicose veins or body shape or too much tans or not enough tans or hairy legs or something else and in my case, it's that something else.
